MUSINA – Mr Abram Luruli, Municipal Manager of the Musina Municipality, will address an international Housing Conference in Dallas, Texas, later this month in his capacity as Vice-President of the Housing Institute of South Africa.
The National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO), based in Washington DC, will hold its 2003 National conference from October 19 until 22. The conference theme is Building a Stronger America through Housing, Economic and Community Development. A panel has been put together under the heading Rejuvenating and Regeneration: Establishing Vibrant Places to Live, with South Africa, the United Kingdom and the United States as members of the panel. One speaker from each of these countries will be giving input on how their countries have been successful in implementing programs that have enabled communities to re-establish themselves through urban regeneration, to become vibrant places where people want to live.
In his presentation, Mr Luruli will raise issues around the interaction between the Institute and the National Department of Housing, and how the Department is assisting communities to re-establish themselves through regeneration. This presentation will assist other countries to learn what South Africa is doing. The Honorary Treasurer of IHSA, Mr Lawrence Ramashamole, will accompany Mr Luruli.
