THOHOYANDOU – Several groups took part in different categories of traditional dance competitions that were held during the Thulamela Municipality Show. The show was held at the Thohoyandou Show ground last Saturday.
The first position went to Mdansi Primary School in the Xicaicai category. A group from Maphophe Primary School obtained the first position in Muchongolo dances. Xibelane competition was won by Botsoleni in the Primary Schools category.
Masikhwa Primary School took home a floating trophy for in the Tshigombela category. A group from Dzindi Primary School impressed the judges in the Malende section. Maniini Primary School was the best in the Tshikona category.
In the secondary schools category Xikundu High School won a trophy for the Xicaicai competitions. Dlamani High School obtained first place in Xibelani dances. Tshigombela dancers from Ramugondo High School were the best in that section.
The same school also took home a trophy for the Malende competitions. Tshilavhutume High School was the winner in the Tshikona category. The winning groups in the different categories of the open section were Mayana Kaya (Xicaicai), Maphophe (Muchongolo), Tiakeni Beads Works (Xibelani), Vhurivhuri Ngwenani (Tshigombela), Luaname (Malende), Vhutavhatsindi (Tshikona). The winning groups will receive their prizes at a ceremony that will be held at the Thohoyandou Town Hall this evening (Friday), starting at 18:30. The winning groups will share cash prizes amounting to R105 100 during the ceremony.
Frank is a Human Resources Manager at the Department of Public Works in Limpopo. He is the longest serving correspondent of the Mirror, having joined us at the end of 1990. He mainly writes sports reports and resides at Tsianda Village. In 2004, Frank won the National Castle League Award, an award for the best reporter in the SAB league in South Africa.
