Rambau's hearing postponed again

News  Date: 06 February 2012

The final score in Senior Magistrate Ronnie Rambau’s pending disciplinary hearing remains to be settled.

Rambau’s hearing was postponed to 25 January after he failed to appear at a hearing in November last year, shortly before he was expected to start testifying in his corruption trail. Rambau, accused of accepting bribe money to influence court cases, was supposed to be at the hearing, but instead was spotted at the Hajee Noor Centre in Louis Trichardt while he was, according to his advocate, in hospital with a severe stomach illness.

He is, according to magistrate’s commission secretary Mr Danie Schoeman, stil receiving his full salary, despite the fact that he has not been allowed back in his office. Schoeman was unable to provide any information regarding the hearing or the investigation into Rambau’s alleged misconduct when he reported sick to the commission.

“The hearing did not continue on 25 January and we are currently in the process of arranging a new date with Rambau’s legal representative,” said Schoeman on Tuesday.

In the meantime, the corruption case against Rambau and his co-accused, prosecutor Estene Willemse and attorney T E Lubisi, is still set to continue in Musina from 21 to 25 May this year.
