The Makhado Municipality says it has set aside R10 million to fix the potholes in the streets around Louis Trichardt. The mayor, Cllr Mavhungu Luruli, confirmed this when she joined the workers last Friday to assist with the fixing of the potholes.

Luruli and her entourage, comprising municipal councillors, the municipal manager Mr Shadrack Tshikalange and the director of technical services, Mr Thivho Ralulimi, embarked on a special programme to fix the town's potholes.

She said that her municipality had to cut on the operational budget and redirect some of the funds to capital expenditure. "We are embarking on a two-week programme, (during which) we will be fixing the potholes ourselves, together with the workers," she said.

Luruli added that she also wanted to encourage and uplift the morale of the workers. "This will help the municipality to improve its services," she said, adding that she had also learnt while working on the project that there was a need to train the workers.

"We are therefore going to focus on improving the training of our workers," said Luruli.

According to the director of technical services, Mr Thivho Ralulimi, the municipality will fix potholes in 10 streets and the project is expected to be finished in two weeks' time.
