Phalaphala judges were biased, accuse Tshikona dancers

News  Date: 12 September 2003

GABA – An angry group of people from Gaba Village, who took part in the Tshikona dance competition, is pointing a finger at the judges of the Tshikona dance category in the Phalaphala FM–Shoprite competition on Tuesday.

They allege that judges were biased and full of nepotism when they were doing the judging. They are not satisfied with the decision of the judges who were judging the competition that was held in the Mutale grounds last Saturday. Some of the groups that made mistakes in the field have won and proceeded to the top ten, they said.

"We need the result forms to be returned, so that we will rectify our mistakes next year. The main aim of this competition is not to promote individuals, but the culture of the Vha-Venda," they said.

"We also agreed in the meeting held in the Phalaphala FM Thohoyandou Studio, that clothing would not be considered when judging the dance. There is nothing wrong with our rhythm, or our presentation," they said.

The Phalaphala FM traditional dances programmer, Mr Juel Tangulani, said to Mirror that there was nothing wrong with the judges and the competition as a whole.
