One vehicle was almost split in half, leaving another a complete write-off in one of several severe road accidents in the Soutpansberg the past weekend. This gruesome scene was photographed along the Thohoyandou road last Friday night. Shortly after sunset, the driver of a Toyota bakkie driving towards Levubu lost control on the slippery road and landed on top of an oncoming sedan. The driver of the sedan, who was trapped inside his vehicle and had to be cut out, spent several scary minutes waiting to be rescued. Local police spokesperson Capt Maano Sadike confirmed that both drivers were rushed to hospital. At the time of going to press, the bakkie driver had been transferred to the Polokwane Hospital. The driver of the sedan escaped with minor injuries.
