Tonight, 23 March 2012, Vicki Richardson, along with members of the Soutpansberg community, will be participating in a very special and powerful event – the town’s first ever CANSA Relay for Life.
The underlying message of the 12-hour walk is “Cancer does not sleep”. Teams are encouraged to participate and raise funds individually. As the Kuifkopfees team leader, Vicki has pledged to walk the entire 12 hours in an effort to raise additional funds for CANSA, as well as to promote Malignant Melanoma awareness – a serious form of skin cancer.
“Cancer awareness is close to my heart. This year my mother celebrates 12 years as a breast-cancer survivor, and two very close friends have recently enjoyed their first post-op cancer-free year. Sadly, some dear family and friends have lost the battle to various forms of cancer. I hope that, in some way, I can make a difference for future sufferers by walking 12 hours, with limited essential breaks, to raise funds for cancer research – the only hope this dreaded disease has of someday being permanently cured,” says Vicki.
Vicki and the Kuifkopfees team appeal to friends, family and the community to show their support by sponsoring her during this fundraising event. Donations and pledges can be made by phoning Barbra on 015 517 7021 or visiting the Kuifkopfees team during the event. All funds raised will be passed on to CANSA.
