News  Date: 26 March 2012

The Musina Municipality has embarked on a drive to cut long grass and shrubs next to the railway line along the N1in a bid to curb criminal activities that are taking place there.

Few days go by without reports of criminal activities taking place there. The place used to be a hiding place for criminals and there is hope that the cutting of the grass will bring peace as the criminals will have nowhere to hide.

Municipal spokesperson Wilson Dzebu says the municipality is doing everything to make sure that Musina remains a crime-free and safe place. “Together with the police, we are working very hard to bring all criminals to book. Community members are also playing their part in informing us about all criminal activities. It should be a lesson that criminals have no room here in Musina and we will continue to fight them until each one of us is safe.”

Besides fighting crime by cutting the bushes, Dzebu says it is very important to take care of the environment, because members of the community's health "directly depends on the health of our environment. It is very easy to find dirt and pollution in many places across our town and it is not good to live in such bad and unhygienic conditions. This pollution of environment is causing many people to suffer from various health problems. Whereas, if we live in a clean environment, we can live a healthy life, and we can achieve this by understanding the importance of a clean environment.”

Dzebu says the municipality is leading by example because it is very important for every individual in town to understand that a clean environment is very important for the health of all human beings.
