Hope Ribege is the queen of the eclipse

MUTALE – While thousands of people headed into the northern parts of the Limpopo Province to have a clear view of the total solar eclipse, the community of Mutale and people from other parts of the province, including tourists witnessed the historic traditional contest at Mutale Town Hall on Tuesday evening.

Everybody, including Mutale Mayor Masindi Manyuha, speaker Mamedzi, manager Godfrey Netshanzhe, PRO Ntshavheni Marole, Chief Nethengwe and his delegates were amused when they saw the ladies getting onto the stage in their Minwenda, during the first appearance.

Chief Lufuno Takalani could not hide his joy as he praised the organiser of the historic function, Rihone Events Management for staging the function, which was dubbed as the best ever function held to revive the Venda culture.

People listened to mbila music provided by Ntshengedzeni Mamphodo who was also assisted by Zozo and Sengere Beat, Khakhathi Tshisikue, Saul Nephawe, Roxley Masevhe, Texo, Fhatuwani Junior, Lufuno Mathoma and a host of other local groups.

More than 300 people cheered along as the programme of the mother of all beauty contests unfolded. The audience appreciated every moment of the event.

Mayor Manyuha, Chief Nethengwe and Takalani could not hide their appreciation and acknowledgement as the ladies declared their commitment to promote and revive the Venda culture. The ladies also encouraged others to join them.

The moment of the truth arrived at about 14:30 when the winners were crowned. Hope Libege was crowned as Queen, Khatshutshelo Sirame as the first princess, while Rofhiwa Makuya earned herself the position of second princess. Khathutshelo Nefolovhodwe walked away with the crown of Miss Personality.

According to Livhuwani Vhengani, one of the directors of Rihone Events Management, the Queen who will receive R4 000, plus R500 from Vevisa Lodge and three days accommodation, has won a life-time crown and trophy as the eclipse will come after many years (28 years to be exact)
