HLANGANANI – Police at Hlanganani have opened a case of culpable homicide, following an incident that occurred at Majosi Village along the Elim-Giyani road on Sunday morning at about 01:00.

According to the spokesperson of the police in the Mopani area, Capt Moatshe Ngoepe, it is alleged that the suspect was driving in his vehicle on the Elim to Giyani road. He allegedly saw the victim along the road when he arrived at Majosi Village. The victim was trying to alert the suspect that there was something wrong with him, and that he was looking for assistance from motorists passing by.

The statement further indicates that the suspect slowed down his vehicle with the intention of stopping. Before he could stop he realised that there were two other men who were standing next to the victim. The two men were allegedly armed with fire-arms.

According to Ngoepe, the two armed men jumped into the road in a bid to force the suspect to stop. Instead of stopping, he drove straight into the victim and knocked him down. He was killed instantly. The victim's friends fled after the incident.

The victim was identified as Andrew Baloyi (18) of Nwamatatani Village
