An 18-year-old young man who allegedly stabbed and killed a friend at Mulelu village in Nzhelele on Sunday, 8 April, was arrested and charged with murder.
The suspect, Nekhondela Livhuwani, allegedly stabbed Joseph Machavha (24). Apparently, the two were on their way from a local bottle store when an argument ensued. The argument resulted in a fight, during which Machaba was allegedly stabbed in the chest under his left arm. He died on the scene. According to the police, the incident took place shortly after midnight.
The spokesperson of the Mphephu police, W/O Lazarus Netshidzati, said that when the police arrived at the scene, the victim was lying on the ground dead. "Machaba had a big wound under his left arm," said Netshidzati. He added that the victim had allegedly been stabbed with a piece of broken bottle.
"Livhuwani was arrested immediately after the incident and charged with murder," Netshidzati added. According to him, Machavha was declared dead by the medical staff who arrived on the scene with an ambulance.
Nekhondela appeared in the Dzanani Magistrate's Court last Tuesday, and the case was postponed to 21 May. He remains in custody.
