The Makuya police arrested two men in connection with taxi-related violence last week.
Makuya police spokesperson W/O Mashudu Madida said the men were arrested at Makuya after an incident where the suspects allegedly attacked a Nzhelele taxi owner and damaged his taxi.
It is alleged that the two, who are members of the Thohoyandou Taxi Association, found the victim and accused him of operating in their area. The victim apparently operates between Venda and Gauteng.
The two are alleged to have stabbed the taxi's tyres before forcefully taking an unknown amount of cash from the owner.
The suspects, Joel Makamu (50) and Tsumbedzo Alfred Mudau (65), appeared in the Thohoyandou Magistrate's Court last week Wednesday. They were charged with malicious damage to property, robbery and assault.
They were granted bail of R1500 each.
