LOUIS TRICHARDT – Among photographic entries from all over the world, the photos of four local young ladies who posed as hair models for local hairdressers Connie de Sousa and Daphné Calitz, appeared in the Image 2002 magazine.

Image is an annual hair magazine supported by beauty houses like Loreal, Schwarzkopf, Wella, Redken and Goldwell. Image 2002 features in the region of 400 photos of hairstyles selected from entries from countries such as the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, Spain, America, Canada and South Africa. The majority of the entries came from the UK from places such as London, Nottingham, Essex, Southsea and Edinburgh (Scotland). The South African entries that were selected came from Cape Town, Somerset West, Port Elizabeth, Durban, Bloemfontein, Johannesburg, Eastgate, Kempton Park, Midrand, Pretoria and Louis Trichardt. The four local ladies, whose photos were accepted, are Bonita de Bruin (full page photo), Cornelia Bezuidenhout (three photos), Vesmé Boshoff and Jackie Kock.

Connie created the hairstyles of Bonita, Cornelia and Vesmé, while Daphné Calitz was responsible for Jackie's hairdo. The make up of all the ladies were done by Clinique Juline, the clothes were fashioned by well-known local designer Lialize Bezuidenhout and the photos taken by Amri Studio.

"This was a real Louis Trichardt accomplishment, with all local models and professionals. Even the photographer's parents reside in Louis Trichardt," says Connie.

Bonita de Bruin is a matric pupil at Louis Trichardt High School who wants to study Psychology at the University of Pretoria next year. She says that she does not consider a career as a hair modelling but enjoys working with Connie. Another Triegie, Cornelia, is a Grade 10 learner who has done previous modelling work and wants to become a Beauty Therapist. Vesmé is an administrative officer at Leach Printers, while the 21-year-old Jackie is a lecturer in soft- and hardware at Metro Training.

Connie says they sent photos of about fifteen styles to Goldwell who forwarded it to Image.

"The girls were lovely," says Connie. "We didn't have to tell them much how to pose. We just told them to enjoy it."

When Connie presents seminars in Johannesburg, which happens regularly, she always takes her photo album featuring hairstyles modelled by local ladies along. "Time and again they ask me where on earth do I get these lovely girls," laughs Connie de Sousa.
