The Vhembe District Municipality’s reservoir maintenance plan is in full swing this week.
Confusion exists, however, regarding which parts of Makhado (Louis Trichardt) and surrounding areas will be left waterless and for how long.
“This cleaning programme is a major operation and certain areas of town will be partially left without water,” a source close to the programme told the Zoutpansberger and Limpopo Mirror. “Water will also forthwith be pumped directly into the existing piping system in town, from the Albasini dam, and therefore we will be unable to say which areas will be affected.”
According to an official public notice released by the Vhembe Municipality, structures that are included in the cleaning programme include 3 pump stations from the Albasini Dam, and eight reservoirs in Makhado. These reservoirs include the Mowkop, Hospital, Extension 7, Railway pump station and four reservoirs in Berg Street.
The cleaning program forms part of the Vhembe Municipality’s “goal to supply every household with an adequate and reliable water supply.”
The municipality made seven water tankers available to supply residents with water. Residents can contact the Makhado municipality’s assistant manager of water services, Mr David Mukosi to request such a water tanker. He can be contacted on 082 941 8171.
