SASELEMANE – A primary school teacher is in hot water following her alleged attack to a Grade R child whom she accused of stealing money.
Hlayisani Chauke (8) of Saselemane, near Ha-Mhinga, east of Thohoyandou was hospitalised for six days. She was treated at Malamulele Hospital for a fractured left hand and wounds after her teacher, Mdyangumuni Doris Chauke (31) allegedly attacked her.
Chauke, a teacher at Mahlolwani Lower Primary, allegedly accused Hlayisani of stealing R150, which went missing from her purse. She then allegedly attacked Hlayisani.
The Superintendent of Education in the Province, Prof Harry Nengwekhulu said the department was about to finish with its investigations. Nengwekhulu said they confirmed the occurrence of the incident and they were waiting for the final report from the Regional Director, Mr Masotsha Mathivha.
Meanwhile, police spokesperson Ngoatshe Ngoepe confirmed that Chauke was formally charged with assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm. She appeared in the Saselemane periodical court last Thursday and the case was postponed to November 7.
