Musina's female farmers get recognition

MUSINA - Different female farmers falling under the jurisdiction of the Musina Municipality received certificates and cash from the mayor, Cllr David Phologa, last Thursday, at the local showgrounds.

The female farmers, who are from different rural areas, including Madibo, participated in several categories, such as top food exporter, national food producer, informal market and household food producers.

According to the mayor, the municipality encourages the female farmers to worker harder and not to wait for the government to do something. Phologa said that he is happy about what the farmers have done to put the municipality on the map.

Mrs Margaret Tshilande is the best exporter and received a certificate and R1 000; Asnath Mulaudzi of Travenna farm ended in second position and collected R700 and a certificate, and Rebecca Phosewa ended in third position and went home with R500.

The division for national food producer was won by Annikie Malukuta, Rachel Madzhie and Selina Ndou. In the informal market, Rosina Tshisevhe, Takaalani Ndou and Sara Nedondwe were the winners.

One of the winners in the household food producers section, Ms Glenrine Mulule, said that she plants spinach and tomatoes and sells them to a big supermarket. She currently employs four people.

All the winners will represent Musina during the district competition.

The previous winners of the national competition who fall under Vhembe district are Mrs Mukutani who won in 2000, Mrs Fhatuwani Ramabulani in 2001, Mrs Jordaan from Levubu in 2002 and Ms Tendani Senwamadi in 2003
