Due to the high level of unemployment and subsequent poverty in the municipal area, the Musina Municipality is calling upon indigent community members to register on their database in order to get free municipal services.
The initiative is targeting those households which are unable to pay for normal municipal services. The municipality is presently providing 3 325 beneficiaries with free water, electricity, sewerage and refuse removal. Each beneficiary gets 6kl of water, 55kw of electricity and 100% free sewer and refuse removal services per month.
A call is made for the updating of the indigenous register for the start of the new municipal financial year, which starts next month (July).
Mayor Carol Phiri says the purpose is to ensure the provision of basic services to the community in a sustainable manner within the financial and administrative capacity of the council to its indigent households, using the Council’s budgetary provisions. She says the council also recognises that many residents simply cannot afford the cost of full provision and for this reason the council will endeavour to ensure affordability to those who do not have sufficient funds to sustain themselves.
Phiri says those who qualify are families whose joint income is R2 400 per month or less. “Those families deserve assistance from the municipality and we are making a call on all people affected to make sure that they use this opportunity, which comes once in every financial year.”
Registrations open on Monday, between 08:00 and 17:00, at the following areas: Nancefield municipal offices, Matswale clinic, Harper, Campbell, Madimbo, Malale and Domboni satellite offices. Applicants should bring along their certified ID copies, certified birth certificate copies for their dependants, payslip for those who earn less than R2 400.00 per month, and an affidavit for those who are unemployed as well as their water and electricity account.
