NWAMATATANI – A dispute over chieftainship is at present causing tension among the Kubayi family and according to a spokesperson of the Nwamatatani Civic Association, the matter has been referred to court.
At a recent meeting of the Nwamatatani Civic, it was revealed that Messrs Thomas Kubayi, Ezekiel Kubayi and Daniel Kubayi have been battling over the chieftaincy for a long time, and this battle has even delayed the process of installing a new Chief for the village.
According to sources close to the family who refused to be named, the confusion started a long time ago as the first Chief of the village, Mr Khamba Kubayi, had at least six wives and a lot of children.
The whole saga allegedly circles around the first wife and her children and the third wife with her children, grand children and great grandchildren.
In a statement during the meeting, Mr Ezekiel Kubayi indicated that he is more than willing to accept any decision by the court. The date of the hearing will be determined later.
