NZHELELE – Two armed men entered the CC Motel and shot and killed a 36-year-old security guard at Phadzima village on Sunday night.

Insp Ndidzulafhi Masiagwala of the SAPS at Siloam said the deceased was Mr Gavin Mavhungu of Milaboni in the Nzhelele area. Mavhungu was confronted at the gate when he intended to lock it. The two suspects emerged and shot Mavhungu in the chest and he died at the scene.

Masiagwala said the two entered the motel where they tied up a man found entertaining his girlfriend in the motel. The girlfriend then managed to lock herself in the motel room.

After the horrific attack they disappeared into the nearby bushes and were still at large by the time of going to press. According to Masiagwala, several cases of armed robbery had been reported at that motel.

He added that the two men must be regarded as dangerous.

Last week five prisoners reportedly escaped from the Dzanani police cell and Louis Trichardt prison. Communities are suspecting that the escapees might have contributed in such a horrific death.
