News  Date: 13 July 2012

The 27-year-old Mulalo Mpharasi of Madombidzha was lucky to survive when a taxi from Sinthumule to Gauteng overturned last Tuesday. Six people died in the accident near Polokwane.

Capt Mohlaka Mashiane of the police in Polokwane said that they had registered a case of capable homicide, following the incident. The deceased are: Rosina Tshiashi of Tshiozwi, Masala Mafhalela, Maggy Mafunisa, Matsidiso Shandukani of Madombidzha and Caiphus Chauke of Muraleni. Shandukani was buried on Saturday, while Tshiashi, Mafhalela and Chauke were buried on Sunday.

Mashiane said that they were still looking for the relatives to come and identify the remaining body.

Mulalo, who was still visibly dejected and struggled to hold back her tears, told Limpopo Mirror of her horrible experience. "We heard a big bang and then the taxi rolled several times. We were thrown about," she said. "There was a huge cloud of dust and we could not even see what was happening. I strongly believe that we were saved by the grace of God.”

She added that the taxi had rolled several times before it came to a halt. "From there, I don’t know what happened, until I found myself in the intensive care unit of the provincial hospital," said Mulalo. She suffered minor injuries to her head and a fractured right arm.

“This is the most horrible experience of my life," she tells. "I cannot sleep and I've been suffering from shock and depression.”

Meanwhile, the Road Accident Fund has donated R16 000 to each family to assist in the burial.
