TSHIMBUPFE - A well-known, unemployed, hard-working woman from the rural area of Tshimbupfe, Mrs Nyawasedza Pandelani (56), recently decided to start with a brick making project to earn an income.
In the past, she worked at several brick making companies in the province. As she is familiar with the technique of brick making, she decided to start with a project to assist her last-born daughter, Thifhelimbilu Pandelani, to continue with her education. Thifhelimbilu passed grade 12 last year, but due to the lack of funds to further her studies, she is lingering around because her mother is unemployed.
She is helping her mother by fetching water far away from the activities, at the fountain of Mahebe. Every day, she makes sure that the 1 000 litre drum is filled with water.
Although they are pleased with the good rains of the past few months, it handicapped them in making bricks, because mud bricks easily dissolve in wet weather.
Mrs Pandelani is using two brick moulds to form the bricks. She said that if she can get a brick machine, she will be able to form a thousand bricks per day.
"What I need is to get a group of people who can work with me, because I am old and I cannot work as regularly as I wish. I'm naturally gifted with making bricks," she said.
