Dean Farisani launches cross border road agency

MUSINA – The Musina Cross Border Road Agency will play an important role in the promotion of trade and the development of the economy of South Africa, said the MEC for Transport of Limpopo, Dr Tshenuwani Farisani. He officially launched the Cross Border Road Agency at Musina on Monday.

According to Farisani, road safety, HIV/Aids awareness, the role of Cross-Border taxi transport, freight and bus transport will form the centre of the message of the road agency. The aim of the agency is, according to the MEC, to provide regulation, facilitation and law enforcement in respect of Cross-Border Road Transport to the public and private sector.

Farisani opened the agency on behalf of the National Minister for Transport, Mr Dullah Omar, who could not attend the event due to commitments in Parliament in Cape Town. Among the people who attended the occasion was the Mayor of Musina, members of the traffic department of Musina, local bus and taxi associations and the C-BRTA members.

MEC Farisani stated that the government had declared September and October to be the Cross-Border Awareness months. According to him, the C-BRTA will play a role in as far as providing an environment for a smooth commercial transport of goods and people within the SADC countries. It will, therefore, promote economic growth in the SADC countries, within a defined regulatory framework.

He also added that the purpose of declaring a cross-border month is to emphasise the economic impact of commercial activities across South Africa to the general public. The Musina Cross Border Agency also plays an important role in the promotion of trade and in the development of the economy of South Africa.
