Week of mourning for Nwamatatani

NWAMATATANI – Nwamatatani residents spent the whole week in mourning, following the death of a 14-year-old girl, Mildred Baloyi, who was found dead near the RDP houses a week ago.

As a result of this incident, students from Msengi High organised a memorial service at the school.

During the ceremony, the principal, Mr Maurice Mbhombhi expressed words of condolences to the bereaved family. He also indicated that the death of Mildred came as a shock to the school, the parents and the SGB. He added that the grand father of Mildred, Mr NS Nkuna offered R5 000 to anyone who can provide information that will lead to the arrest and conviction of the people responsible for Mildred's death.

After the ceremony, the school planted a small tree, in memory of Mildred. On Friday, she was laid to rest at Madobi Village. The service was held at Nwamatatani village and she was buried at Madobi. During the funeral service, Mr Masenyani Kubayi, who addressed the crowd on behalf of Chief Nwamatatani, said the Royal Council was very sorry about what happened and he also encouraged the community to work with the police in order to bring the culprits to justice.

The ceremony was also attended by black and white students from local schools, who came in large numbers to bid farewell to their fellow student.
