A 30-year-old resident of Mberengwa village outside Beit Bridge, who is employed in South Africa, is on the run after he had allegedly killled wife with a log over suspicions of infidelity.
The incident happened after midnight on Thursday at the village. The deceased was identified as Charity Moyo (26).
The local police spokesperson, Asst Insp Emmanuel Mahoko, said that the suspect, Walker Legion Zimhondi, had returned home from South Africa and accused his wife of infidelity. “A misunderstanding arose between the two and the suspect allegedly picked up a log and struck the victim several times on the head, resulting in her death,” said Mahoko.
The matter was reported to the police by the suspect’s mother. Mahoko said the police attended the scene and the body was taken to a local hospital for a post mortem.
“Investigations are still in progress and the suspect is at large. We urge community members to consult or engage third parties like elders and counsellors when faced with problems, to avoid such incidents. We are also appealing to members of the public who might have information leading to the arrest of the suspect, to contact any nearest police station,” said Mahoko.
