TSHAKHUMA - Five athletes from the Tshakhuma Marathon Club have been selected into the provincial squad that will represent Limpopo in the South African games to be held in Pretoria on September 28.

The athletes Awinaki Ndou (16), Humbulani Thenga (15), Muraga Makhera (16), Tshimangadzo Ravele (16) and Tshililo Mphephu (17) were also selected to represent the province during the South African games held in Phalaborwa and Pietersburg in June.

The whole squad comprises 41 athletes. Fifteen of them, including these five from Tshakhuma, are from the far north.

Mr Baldwin Masutha, director of Tshakhuma Athletics Club said he was happy about the selection of his children. He also urged other clubs to work hard so that there could be many children in this type of competition.

"This is good for our children. Before we used to have problems getting children into SA games. I hope that when this event comes again in 2004, we will have more children from this area," said Masutha while adding that his children will make a mark in these games. The doctor indicated that the athletes where healthy when he checked them last week Wednesday. Even in the cross country held last week Saturday at Levubu they did well," he said.
