News  Date: 19 October 2012

Three Mozambicans were killed and another person was injured when the vehicle they were travelling in hit another car, resulting in its overturning.

Local police spokesperson Sgt Nkosilathi Sibanda said the accident occurred last Thursday at around 11:00 at the 237km peg along the Beit Bridge-Masvingo road. The victims’ car had four people on board, all members of the same family. They were coming from a holiday in South Africa and heading back home.

“The car, which was towing a trailer, was travelling from South Africa. The driver tried to overtake another vehicle and, on returning to his lane, he failed to clear the distance and side-swiped the other car with his trailer, resulting in their vehicle veering off the road and overturning,” he said.

The driver, Ishmael Mahomed (61) and his son Adam Ishmael Mohamed (26) died instantly and their bodies were taken to Beit Bridge District Hospital mortuary. Ishmael’s wife, Madinavaley Mahomed (61), was taken to Musina Hospital where she later died. Their daughter-in-law, Fahimah Adam Ishmael, sustained injuries and she was taken to the Musina Hospital, where she was treated and discharged.
