TSHISAULU - Stanley Mulaudzi (27) of Tshisaulu took to cleaning toilets as a money-making method, as he's earning a useful income on a daily basis. Mulaudzi, who is married and has a 2-year-old child, is self-employed, spending most of his time cleaning the public toilets which are the property of the Thulamela municipality.
"I charge all public toilet users 50 cents for entry into the toilet. The reason behind charging them the money is because I am the one who mops and cleans the toilet on a daily basis," he said.
He told Mirror that he started cleaning the toilets in 1997, after he quit selling ice cream at the taxi rank.
"I think it is good to tell Mirror that I pocket more than R300 per day. I told myself it is better to make money out of things that people can see, than to steal someone's property," he says.
He adds that he would never go out to look for jobs, as he's satisfied. According to Mr Eric Manngo, a member of the public, before Mulaudzi took over from cleaning the toilet, it was difficult for civilised people to use is, as it was always messy. "Mulaudzi is a big man who cares for us as the public," he adds. Mr Makonde Mathivha, Thulamela's municipal manager, told Mirror that he welcomes the decision Mulaudzi took. He adds that Mulaudzi is doing something good for the public. In the past, municipal workers were used to clean them, "but after a few minutes, the toilets were a mess."
