SHAYANDIMA - The Tshilidzini Special School, which is situated in the village of Shayandima, received a welcome visit by an American medical team during the past week.

The purpose of visiting the school was to give the learners physical examinations, wheelchairs, crutches, leg braces, shoes, medicine and toys. The programme of the team is hosted by the "School of Tomorrow," situated in Shayandima in near the Tshilidzini Hospital.

Tshilidzini Special School is a partner of the School of Tomorrow in this programme. The American medical team comprised 90 medical students, 10 medical therapists and 15 medical doctors. The visit is sponsored by the East Cooper Baptist Church in Charleston, South Carolina, in the USA.

The co-director of the American medical students, Ms Amanda Malone, told Mirror that she was delighted, because the spirit of her students was very high. She also stated that this was the second year that they have been visiting the Special school, through the partnership with the School of Tomorrow.

"I am very happy because some of the learners who were totally physically disabled at the Special School, are now able to walk and talk, through the support of our students. I believe that the equipment will change the lives of the pupils," said Malone.

The deputy principal of Tshilidzini Special School, Mr Douglas Luies, said that the school management and the children's parents were jubilant about getting the physical exam and equipment free of charge. "This shows that God is taking care of the disabled people".
