The Bibile Society of South Africa has embarked on a project of distributing Bibles to Grade 7 pupils in schools around the province.
The Grade 7 learners in selected schools within the Vhembe district where given copies of the English translation of the Bible as part of the national project by the Bible Society. The society is distributing at least 500 000 bibles in the district to promote a healthy morality and sober living standards among the youth.
“The Grade 7s are going to secondary schools next year, so we want to prepare them for another phase of their secondary level,” said the chairperson of the Bible Society in Limpopo, Rev Norman Ligege.
Ligege said that, through reading the Bibles, pupils would learn about useful values and when to treasure these values in a world full of troubles and temptations. “As parents and society, we need to create a sober world for our children,” added Ligege.
The chairperson of the Makhado region of the Bible Society, Pastor George Ramatshimbila, distributed Bibles to four schools in the Sinthumule and Kutama area. His visit to Maguluvhe Senior Primary School was welcomed warmly by the staff members of the school and pupils alike, on Wednesday last week.
“We thank the Bible Society for understanding that our children need more than secular ways of upbringing,” said Mr Makhado Mugeri, a teacher at the school.
A young, confident Nyeleti Mahwayi represented the pupils and said that they would read the Bibles. “We'll never put them in the drawers to gather dust,” she said.
