A well-known community builder and member of parliament in the former Republic of Venda, Mr Jamson Mugivhi (98), was laid to rest at the Ha-Mutsha cemetery last Saturday.
He passed away on 8 November after a long illness.
Mr Mugivhi worked as a teacher from 1936 at different schools around Venda, including Siloam Primary and the Levubu Industrial School. He was a member of the Transvaal African Teachers’ Association (TATA), which was banned in the early 1950s. He was also member of the Lutheran Church.
During his funeral, Mugivhi was described as a pioneer, a born leader and a man of vision. He was a role model to many.
According to his daughter, Ms Erica Mugivhi Matodzi, he was a solemn and restrained person and very dignified.”For many years, he served selflessly and faithfully in parishes throughout the country. He was dedicated to the development of the Lutheran Church, and in those days he made himself available day and night to all who needed him,” she said.
He is survived by his wife and was blessed with 14 children, 39 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Kaizer Nengovhela started writing stories for Limpopo Mirror in 2000. Prior to that he had a five year stint at Phala-Phala FM as sports presenter. In 2005 Kaizer received an award from the province's premier as Best Sports Presenter. The same year he was also nominated as Best Sports Reporter by the Makhado Municipality. Kaizer was awarded the Mathatha Tsedu award in 2014.
