MALONGA - The success of a humble peanut butter project, which started in May last year, is making headlines throughout the country.
The Divuseni Peanut Butter Project in the rural area of Malonga, started with seventeen unemployed members. Due to a lack of machines, they are still using primitive tools to grind nuts to form the peanut butter. They are then supplying the peanut butter to their neighbouring areas around Vuwani.
According to a spokesperson for the project, they are able to make only 9 bottles of 750g and 15 bottles of 500g per day. Their main problems, however, are that they have no building and machines to sustain and develop their project. They are running their project from a hut of the Magoro family. "It is true that I gave the project a hut free of charge, because they were doing their job in a polluted place. I earn nothing from the project, but God will bless me," said the owner of the hut, Mr Magoro.
The community of the village of Malonga, and its neighbours, buy and order the peanut butter. All the project members are relying on that project to maintain and support their families, even to pay for their children's education. Unfortunately, the money is not enough to fulfill their needs.
The chairperson of the project, Mrs Josephinah Mulaudzi, said that they had been doing their job under a tree. "I would like to thank Magoro`s family, who gave us the place where we are working now. We are pleading for donors to support the project," said Mulaudzi.
Anyone who wants to help, can visit Malonga or contact 073 1577 693 or 072 1787 691.
