Sita wins Two Countries Marathon

MUSINA – The annual Two Countries Marathon between Zimbabwe and Musina was on Saturday (3rd) won by Sita Kasirai from Harmony Gold Mine AC (Athletics Club).

Kasirai completed the 42,2 kilometre race in a time of 02:21:10 securing himself a gold medal. He was also the first senior male to complete the race. Ludwick Mamabole from Bedford View was second in a time of 02:23:30, with Stanley Nekhondela from Protea Roadrunners in the third place in a time of 02:24:46.

The first male veteran to cross the finishing line was Albert Masela from PTM Escom in a time of 02:49:53. Hendrick Readani from Mutale AC was the second male veteran in a time of 02:51:50, while DJ du Toit from Benoni Harriers finished third in 03:18:43.

Petrus Davhana from the SAPS was the first male master to complete the race in a time of 03:11:52. He was followed by Mabotha Phuti from PTM Escom in a time of 03:19:46, with Hanspeter Stebler from Rand AC in the third spot in 03:29:17.

The winner of the Grand Master Men Category (60 years +) was Afred Ndou from Liberty Nike in a time of 03:37:21, closely followed by Leon van Wyk from Randburg AC in 03:39:55.

As far as the women are concerned, Mavis Maduka from Tshakuma AC was the first senior to complete the marathon in a time of 03:34:44. Less than a minute later, team mate Agnes Muswane finished second in a time of 03:35:18.

The first veteran woman home was Jane Mudau from Protea Roadrunners in a time of 03:23:36, with Lesley Vermeulen from Coaldust AC finishing as first Master in a time of 05:08:00.

In the 21.1 kilometres half marathon, Emmanuel Matashu from Gathsmine was the first senior male to complete the race in a time of 01:07:19. Johannes Monyela finished second in a time of 01:09:17, with Matthews Mogiwa third in a time of 01:10:15.

Lucky Ludere was the first male junior, while SB Mudau (SANDF) and Amos Makhushu respectively finished first and second in the category for veteran men. Max Mason was the first male master.

The first woman junior in the half marathon was Azwanaki Ndou (Tshakuma), while Azwindini Lukwareni (Harmony Gold Mine AC), Vhofholowani Siwadi (Tshakuma AC) and Thenga Humbulani (Tshakuma AC) respectively finished first, second and third in the category for senior women. The first veteran woman was Riette Taute from Tzaneen AC.

The annual Two Countries Marathon is organized by the Musina Marathon Club.
