No more traffic congestion in Thulamela

News  Date: 05 December 2012

Mayor Grace Mahosi of Thulamela was oozing confidence as she opened part of a R275-million road project on Thursday. The road links Thohoyandou with neighbouring areas like Muledane and Tswinga.

The project is the first phase of the neighbourhood project, aimed at developing the towns in Thulamela. The project was started three years ago and it is envisaged that it will be completed by May next year.

According to Mahosi, after the entire project is completed, the road from Thohoyandou to a town like Giyani will be shorter.

Accompanied by Manager Makonde Mathivha, traditional leaders and councillors, Mahosi said her municipality was on track in their quest to service delivery. “At the rate we are going, Thohoyandou will be a city in the near future,” she said.

Thulamela’s technical manager, Mr Mulimisi Muneri, said the entire project was part of Vision 2030. “In keeping with our vision, the area will have a new shape by that time, as people coming from the Makhado municipal area to the Kruger National Park will not be disturbed by the traffic in the municipality,” he said.

Part of the project is a traffic circle in Thohoyandou which controls traffic to areas like Muledane, Sibasa, Makhado and Malamulele.
