MOPANI – The police in Mopani are investigating a case of murder and armed robbery, following an incident that took place at the Runnymade village near Letsitele on Saturday morning at about 08:30.
According to the spokespeson of the police in the area, Sup Moatshe Ngoepe, the deceased, Mr Nelson Maake (41), was delivering bread at the local restaurants when the incident occurred.
The deceased was a bakery truck driver. According to the police statement, Maake parked the truck at one of the restaurants and remained in the vehicle as his assistants were busy delivering crates of bread in the outlet. Suddenly, two armed men emerged from the surrounding bushes.
The men shot Maake in the back. They then dragged him out of the truck and put him in front of the truck on the ground. At that stage, he was bleeding profusely. They searched in the vehicle and stole cash amounting to R4000. One of the robbers later occupied the driver’s seat and drove the truck over Maake. He died on the spot. The robbers then drove off in the truck and abandoned it about 20km from the scene of the incident. No arrest had been made at the time of going to the press.
The police have appealed to anyone with information relating to the incident to contact them at Tel: 0860 010 111 saying they will treat the information with the confidentiality it deserves.
