DIDIDI – The Community of Dididi outside Thohoyandou is still baffled by the mysterious disappearance and death of an 89-year-old pensioner, Mr George Mutavhatsindi Ratsibi, who was found in the nearby bush last September.
The old man disappeared on September 1, 2003 and was found on September 14. At that stage, the body was already partially decomposed. Many members of the community associate his death with ritual murder.
What also baffled the community and the family is a letter found in Ratsibi's yard, written by an unknown person: "We are so sorry to kill Mr George Mutavhatsindi Ratsibi, we did all these due to the instruction from our Sangoma and now we are suffering because the Ghost of an old man is beating us every day".
The question of who had written the letter is still unanswered, but according to the community, the police are in possession of the original letter.
The Ratsibi family is also baffled because the old man's sight was not very good, and he could not walk properly anymore. Captain Ailwei Mushavhanamadi of the SAPD said he was aware of the letter, and that he would get it from the Thohoyandou Police Station.
Last week, an old woman was allegedly found murdered in the Mulenzhe Village and the police are still-hunting for the murderer.
