THOHOYANDOU – The Northern Region for the Department of Transport will stage a drivers' competition at the Thohoyandou Stadium parking area tomorrow, Saturday August 10.
According to the project manager Mr NS Matidze, the drivers will compete in three categories, rigid trucks, articulated trucks and a bus category. The top three drivers in each category will be awarded with trophies and medals. The overall winner will be given another trophy in honour of his/her achievement.
Matidze stated that 32 drivers would compete in the rigid trucks category. Only eight drivers will battle it out for the first two positions in the articulated truck section, while 38 drivers are set to take part in the bus category. The top two drivers in each category will proceed to the provincial competitions, which will be staged at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane next Friday, August 16.
Matidze revealed that the winners in the provincial competition would proceed to the national competitions, which will be staged in Western Cape later this year. According to him, all drivers who will take part in the competitions will be awarded certificates.
Matidze further stated that the only requirement for the driver to take part in the competition is a public drivers permit (PDP). Tomorrow's competition will start at 07:30. More information with regard to the competition is obtainable from Mr Matidze at Tel 082 688 7031.
