Council wants to relocate war memorial

News  Date: 02 August 2002

LOUIS TRICHARDT – The local municipality intends to move the war monument from the memorial park on the corner of Forestry, Messina and Louis Botha Streets to the site of the Turbi Hills Shellhole in Burger street.

The cenotaph was erected after the end of the Second World War, in memory of local residents who had died in the First and Second World Wars.

In an advertisement this week the municipality gives notice of its intention to relocate the monument, to be situated within the Turbi Hills Shelhole Grounds.

Any person who wishes to lodge an objection to the intended relocation of the cenotaph must submit objections to the Municipal Manager before the end of Friday, August 16.

The Chief Town Engineer, Mr. Lynn Sahli, said on enquiry that the relocation had been requested by the local MOTH Shellhole.
