Khubvi Dangerous Darkies FC celebrated their 20 years of existence during a ceremony was held at the local community hall last Sunday afternoon.

Several awards were dished out to deserving players, officials and community members who contributed towards the success of the team during the past years.

The founder members of the cub, Messrs Thomas Manganye and Alugumi Muthakhi, received lifetime awards. The late Mbangiseni Mudzanani, Nkhangweni Ramuoki and Johannes Mushiana were posthumously  recognised for their contribution towards the success of the team.

The players whose performance was outstanding during the 2011/12 soccer season were presented with certificates, trophies and gold medals. Players who went home with smiling faces are: Tinyiko Manganye (players’ player of the season), Aubrey Ramuoki (player of the season), Thinandavha Munyai (top goal scorer), Maanda Munyai (best keeper of the season) and Avhashoni Makhoshi (most improved midfielder).

According to the spokesperson of the club, Mr Norman Ramahada, the club was established in 1993. At that stage, the team was campaigning under the banner of the now-defunct North East Sibasa Soccer Association (Nesisa). The team was promoted to the Super League in 1997.

The year 2011 saw the team gain promotion to the SAB League.

Ramahada revealed that some of the team’s achievements include winning the Tshikondeni Mine KO competition (2008), Sedzazwau KO competition (2009) and lifting the Benjies KO trophy in 2010.

A well-known local football fanatic, Mr Prince Mapholi, was the guest speaker at the ceremony.
