GIYANI – The police have arrested a 45-year-old man and charged him with murder, following an incident that took place at Giyani Section F on Sunday morning at about 11:00.
According to the police statement the deceased, Ndayeni Rikhotso (51) and her husband left their Giyani Section A home and went to pay the deceased's mother a visit.
After a while, in the old woman's home, the deceased's husband told them that he wanted to go somewhere and that he would come and pick up the deceased later in the evening. According to the police statement the deceased later went to the laundry to assist her mother with the washing of clothes.
The statement further indicates that the suspect got into the house and followed the deceased into the laundry. At that stage the deceased's mother was in the kitchen. The suspect locked the door from inside. What followed next was the screaming of the deceased.
The old woman requested the deceased to open the door and there was no response. Moments thereafter all was quiet. Realising that there was no response from inside the room, the old woman decided to phone the police. On arrival the police forced the door open.
They found the deceased's body lying in a pool of blood. Her throat was slit and there was an open wound on her chin. The police tried to question the suspect and he remained silent. He was then arrested and was still to appear in court at the time of going to press.
