TSHITALE – Patricia Mugwena (21) of Mukondeni Village and her husband, Simon Mamaila (25), briefly appeared in the Tshitale Magistrate's Court last Friday.
Mugwena was charged with attempted murder, while Mamaila was there to answer to a charge of negligence. The incident relating to the case took place at Mukondeni Village last Monday, July 15 at about 14:15.
According to the spokesperson of the Tshitale police station, Insp. Azwinndini Makhavhu, Mugwena allegedly proceeded to the complainant's kraal on the day of the incident, where she met the complainant, a 22-year-old woman, in the street.
According to the statement, Mugwena then started accusing the complainant of having a love affair with her husband. During the argument the two started a fistfight. Mugwena allegedly produced a fire-arm and shot the complainant in the knee.
The matter was reported to the police and Mugwena was arrested the following day. The fire-arm used was confiscated and upon investigation it was discovered that the fire-arm belonged to Mugwena's husband, Simon Mamaila.
Mamaila was questioned about the fire-arm and later charged with negligence. Mamaila told the police that the fire-arm was kept behind a wardrobe in his room. According to the statement, Mamaila had obtained his fire-arm licence when he was still working for a security company on the Reef some months ago.
Both Mamaila and Mugwena were warned to avail themselves to the same court on 2 August.
