Ten die in road accidents

LOWVELD – Ten people died in motor accidents in the Lowveld area over the past weekend.

Mr Matome Sathekge (45) and his ten-year-old son, Tshepo Sathekge, died instantly when the former allegedly lost control of his car before it overturned.

According to the spokesperson of the police in the Lowveld, Insp. Hasani Mabaso, the accident took place along the Mooketsi-Duivelskloof road last Saturday at about 05:00. Another occupant of the vehicle was taken to the Ga-Kgapane Hospital in a critical condition.Mr Sathekge was a well-known businessman at Dwarsriver, where he was staying.

A police officer, Insp. Ben Vukeya of Basani Village and two occupants of his vehicle died instantly when the car in which they were travelling collided with another vehicle along the Mooketsi-Giyani public road. The accident took place last Saturday morning at about 01:00.Insp. Vukeya was attached to the Johannesburg Central Police Station at the time of his death. The identity of the other two victims was not yet known at the time of going to press.

The police have appealed to the people to assist them by identifying the bodies at the Mankweng hospital.

In a separate incident the police in Hoedspruit were investigating a case of culpable homicide following the death of five people on the road. The accident took place along the Klaserie-Acornhoek road last Saturday afternoon at about 17:00. According to the police statement the horrific accident took place when two vehicles collided head-on.

The police were still battling to identify the victims at the time of going to press.
