NZHELELE - Tension is mounting in the rural village of Nzhelele, after a speeding car knocked down a group of youths.

The six, Mangalani Ramudzuli (20), Mulalo Rathonwa (19), Ndishavhelafhi Tshivhase (19) Lufuno Tshivhase (16), Goodman Kwinda (26) and Abel Nemukula (19), members of the Fondwe Athletics Club (FAC) were jogging along the Nzhelele-Thohoyandou road, when the driver of a white bakkie lost control while trying to overtake a truck, went off the road and hit them from behind.

This incident, which happened last Tuesday morning at about 07:00, came hardly two weeks after a former soccer boss, Mr Peter Rabali, had knocked down seven youths after he lost control over his car on the same road. Five youths were killed in the accident.

Last Wednesday, a pensioner, Masindi Ramungani, was knocked down and killed by a vehicle on the same road.

Fortunately, of the six youths who were knocked down by the car, no one died. However, two of them, Ramudzuli Rathongwa and Ndishavhelafhi Tshivhase, were admitted for three days to the Siloam hospital where they were treated for serious head and face wounds. The other youths, Lufuno Tshivhase, Kwinda and Nemukula only sustained minor injuries on their hands and legs, while Khumbudzo Rasivhetshela (17) and Alpheas Tshivhase were not injured.
