Bird and reptile park opens at Meropa

News  Date: 05 July 2002

POLOKWANE – One of the biggest attractions at Sun International's Meropa Casino and Entertainment World is WildThingZ, a unique bird, butterfly and reptile park and a Birds of Prey Centre that truly leaves one spellbound.

Beautifully landscaped, with water features and amazing display areas, the bird, butterfly and reptile park, along with the Bird of Prey Centre, is going to leave most visitors dumbstruck. It was designed to fit in with the casino's North Africa theme and is home to some 200 indigenous species of birdlife, as well as walk-through and freestanding aviaries housing other birds from across the world.

In stark contrast to the tranquillity of the butterfly and bird park, is the Bird of Prey Centre, which is home to Africa's largest eagles and other raptors. Among these is the world's fastest bird, the Peregrine Falcon. The Bird of Prey Centre allows the public to see these amazing birds in their natural habitat, while acting out their natural behaviour in the Free-Flight Lords of the Air Show, which is presented twice daily.

The reptile park also promises to be a highlight when visiting the park. It houses a number of the world's biggest venomous and non-venomous snakes, as well as some of South Africa's most dangerous snakes. A snake show will also allow visitors a close-up look at these snakes, which is sure to send a shiver down one's spine.

The WildThingZ outdoor area is open daily from 09:00 until 17:00. At only R10 for children and R15 for adults, it's an experience that will not be easily forgotten.
