THOHOYANDOU – The Limpopo police have arrested a traffic department official on a charge of theft of more than R12, 000.

Police spokesperson, Captain Ailwei Mushavhanamadi, said they had arrested Shai Lloy Maphaba on Thursday. Maphaba, who was working as a clerk at Soekmekaar Traffic Department, is suspected of stealing money collected from learners' drivers' and car licenses.

He appeared in court on Thursday evening, the day of his arrest, and was released on R500 bail.

He will appear again in court on August 4.
