A 46-year-old man appeared in the Tshilwavhusiku Magistrate's Court in connection with charges of rape on Monday.
The crimes allegedly took place between 20 June 2009 and 28 March 2013, where the stepfather allegedly forced himself onto his 13-year-old stepdaughter.
According to the spokesperson for the Tshilwavhusiku police, Const Munyadziwa Marindi, the suspect had threatened the victim with violence if she told anyone about the sexual abuse. "It seemed that the girl had got to the stage where she felt that enough was enough and decided to tell her mother about the stepfather who slept with her," said Marindi.
He said that the victim maintained that the sexual abuse had started when she was only nine.
The case against the suspect was postponed to 16 April. He remains in custody.
