Unemployed Gladys Netshilata of Mbilwi outside Thohoyandou, who recently lost her mud hut due to heavy floods in the Thulamela area, could not believe her eyes when Lady Luck came smiling her way.

Netshilata (28) was one of the beneficiaries of food parcels donated by the Seventh Day Adventist Church through its social responsibility wing, Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA).

The handing over of 850 food parcels by ADRA officials Justice Mongwe, president of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, and Jumara Netshifulani, the Adventist Development and Relief Agency country director, took place during the Vhembe District Municipality's disaster overview and acknowledgement and assistance meeting for different stakeholders.

The meeting took place a fortnight ago at the executive mayor’s boardroom.

Receiving the groceries that would pull her through the month, the ecstatic Gladys said the donation was one of the best things to have happened to her this year. The mother of two said it had been one tragedy after the other for her.
