Cllr extends olive branch

The newly elected councillor for Thulamela Ward 33, Mr Thomani Thabela, has extended an olive branch to other political parties to work together for the sake of development in the ward.

Thabela, the PAC candidate, beat the candidates of the ANC and Cope in the recent by-election. The by-election came about after serious irregularities were detected in the 2011 local government elections by the ANC during an investigation. The results of the investigation led to many ANC councillors' being recalled countrywide. Thulamela was one of the casualties. The by-election took place on 27 April.

“The by-election was not a personal fight. It was only to determine the will of the people and I am happy that the people exercised their right. The results are not for enhancing one’s pride, but are about what one can offer to the people. I am ready for the challenge and I am making an appeal to other parties that they should come on board. Forget about political squabbles and render service to the community,” said Thabela.

He said he was not representing the PAC but was an umbrella for all in the ward, irrespective of their political affiliation. "Look, I am not wearing the PAC shirt. I am now a leader of the whole ward and I have to work with all the people in the ward. It is only a matter of time that we will together bring change in the ward,” he added.

“We will work hand in hand with the traditional leaders in the ward. Everything which affects the community will be done at the traditional leader’s palace. We will always be in touch with our people,” said Thabela.
