Thulamela Municipality recognises its achievers

THOHOYANDOU – In recognition of their achievements, the Thulamela Municipality has awarded certificates and trophies to its achievers during a glittering ceremony that was held at the Thohoyandou Town Hall last Friday.

The people from almost all walks of life including athletes, karatekas, musicians, farmers and boxers were honoured for their achievements during the ceremony. The two local world boxing champions, Philip Ndou and Cassius Baloyi, were the recipients of the best boxers awards.

The only female boxing referee in the province, Mrs Sylvia Maphangule was also honoured for a job well done. The spokesperson of the SAPS in the Far North Capt. Ailwei Mushavhanamadi was also praised for his ability to cultivate a good relationship between the police services and the surrounding communities.

The son of the local reggae music artist, Colbert Mukwevho, Percy, was honoured for being the up and coming local artist in the region. The Thohoyandou Lutheran Church Choir and the SAPS Far North Choir were chosen to be the best choirs in the Thulamela Municipality.

The achievements made by Mbilwi Senior Secondary School for producing the best matric results during the past years did not go unnoticed. The school principal, Mr NO Ramugondo, also received a trophy and certificate on behalf of the school.

The mayor of the Thulamela Municipality, Chief TN Makumbane delivered a welcome address during the ceremony. He stated that recipients of the awards have managed to conquer the world in spite of coming from poor backgrounds and disadvantaged communities.

The MEC for the Department of Local Government and Housing Mr Joe Maswanganyi delivered a keynote address during the ceremony. The function was sponsored by NW Civils, First National Bank, Bing Bing Motors, Armed Response North, Magwaba Bus Service and Phalaphala FM.
