MUSINA – The police in the Far North are still looking for nine awaiting-trial prisoners who escaped from the Musina Police Station's holding cells on Saturday night.
Initially, ten awaiting-trial prisoners escaped, but one was arrested shortly after the escape.
The suspects escaped through the roof of the cell after they had sawn through the roof with a hacksaw. The police are still investigating how the saw had made its way into the police cells.
The suspects are John Phiri (27) who was arrested for robbery, Arthur Gomba (20) theft, Thabang Mlalazi (20) for possession of a stolen motor vehicle, Absalom Nyoni (27) robbery, Dennis Shoko (18) arrested for possession of stolen goods, Ndumiso Moyo, 23, who was arrested for housebreaking and theft, Clement Dube, 19, was arrested for rape, Freedom Mukatuni (18) and Aissaya Makamu who were arrested for housebreaking, while Norman Muleya was rearrested on Sunday at the Musina Shopping Centre.
The police are appealing to community members who might know the whereabouts of the nine not to confront them, but to inform them as soon as possible.
