Another national award for Mbilwi

SIBASA – When the principal of Mbilwi High School, Mr NO Ramugondo, received an invitation to attend the annual SABC 2 Tribute Achievers ceremony, little did he know that he was going to receive a prestigious award on behalf of his school.

The ceremony was held in Sandton recently. The school was awarded with a trophy for producing the best results in the country over the past years in spite of being underprivileged and under-resourced. The other institutions that have reached the final stage in the education category were the SABC Education Department and the Soul Buddyz.

The school received a trophy for outstanding performance in matric results.

The governor of the South African Reserve Bank, Mr Tito Mboweni, was the winner in the leadership category. Mboweni became the first black governor of the South African Reserve Bank in 1999. Two years later he was voted as the world 's best reserve bank governor.

The winner in the category for women was Mrs Jean Davidson. She is the managing director of the Caroza Farm, a farm that produces cut roses for export. The internet wiz, Mark Shuttleworth, was the winner in the Science and Technology group.

The award for Black Economic Empowerment was won by the Gauteng Tender Board. The well-known songwriter, Ms Lebo Morake, was the winner in the category African Excellence in Entertainment and Arts. Baby Jake Matlala was honoured as the best sportsman during the ceremony. The Chief Executive Officer of the Black Like Me hair business, Mr Herman Mashaba, was the winner in the business category.

It is not the first time for Mbilwi to win a prestigious national award. Their the Science and Mathematics teacher, Mr Koto Thavhana, was nominated the best Science and Mathematics teacher in the country two years ago.
